Sin Destino - Francisco Rey, David Valdez - DVD | moviebizz.com featuring
rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: Inspired by Luis Bunuel's Los Olvidados, Mexican
writer-director Leopoldo Laborde's haunting, engrossing film shows Mexico City
at its darkest. Fifteen-year-old Frank sells his body to men to survive, but
still can't afford his own drug habit. His best friend (and dealer) David helps
him out with "loans" and offers advice on how to bed women, something the young
gay hustler knows nothing about. Frank's obsession with the pretty blonde
Angelica blossoms, but when an older man from Frank's past turns up again, the
young boy becomes even more sexually confused...and fierce. Shot primarily in
startling black and white, Sin Destino offers a shocking, devastating
glimpse into the heart and soul of young, impressionable boys who long for a
better life.
EDITORIAL REVIEW:
A true independent film pretty much slaps censors in the face and follows to the
beat of its own drummer. The very first scene in the film shows Frank
masturbating (shot from the waste up) in a dirty washroom as a "John" looks on
with pure glee. To top it off, the scene (and almost the entire movie) is shot
in black and white thus grabbing your attention almost immediately. Yes, this is
your typical independent film that many distributors tend to avoid for fear of
offending people. Much of the film is filled with violence, sex and a
15-year-old, sexually confused, boy's view of it while stoned most of the time.
Just when you thought it wasn't possible, Frank's life takes an
unexpected turn...for the worse. Francisco Rey (Frank) can also
be seen in
Juego de
niños.
