Moritz - Jonus Rohr, Rudolph Straub - DVD | moviebizz.com featuring rare
coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: 9-year-old Moritz's mother has fallen severely ill and
rushed to the hospital. While she awaits further tests, Moritz is
temporarily placed in the care of his neighbors - two gay men. The three
would be an ideal family if it were not for the local busy body, who takes it
upon herself to pull some strings with the mayor and have the authorities take
Moritz away to a foster family.
EDITORIAL REVIEW:
Moritz is the story of a young boy's journey to find comfort and solace while
his mother, Angela, undergoes tests and lifesaving surgery in hospital. Before
being rushed to the hospital, Moritz (played by Swiss actor
Jonus Rohr) was "placed" with Ralph and Andi (Rudolph
Straub, Anatole Taubman), the
neighborhood's flaming gay couple. Ralph is a successful businessman
"married" to his job and desperately trying to get a promotion.
Ralph's
lover Andi is the more free spirited type, working at a video game store
(which Moritz doesn't mind so much) and
sometimes known to cheat on Ralph. Mortiz's unexpected, albeit
temporary, stay has thrown the gay men's life for a spin. Andi welcome's
the boy with open arms and enjoys his company, but Ralph wants no part of it - absolutely no children
in the house. While young Moritz is at first a little nervous about maybe
"turning gay", he eventually accepts his new home. But the nosey neighbors
seem to think they know what is best for Moritz, and that is definitely
not
living with homos! Allegations of inappropriate acts by Ralph and
Andi with Moritz (rumors started by Andi!) prompt an official investigation by the town's mayor,
husband of the busybody, who himself is busy -
preparing for a visit by the President of Switzerland. Suddenly, the
prejudice that Ralph and Andi took years to help eliminate in their community is
back in full force as they dodge death threats and random acts of violence.
During this time of uncertainty and whether or not Angela will live
through her illness, not once has anyone asked Moritz what he wants. When it comes time for
that - Moritz is no where to be found.
