SYNOPSIS: Like many American outsider-adventurers, Dorian "Doc" Paskowitz set out to realize a utopian dream.  Abandoning a successful medical practice, he sought self-fulfillment by taking up the nomadic life of a surfer.  But unlike other American searchers like Thoreau or Kerouac, Paskowitz took his wife and nine children along for the ride, all eleven of them living in a 24 foot camper.  Together they lived a life that would be unfathomable to most, but enviable to anyone who ever relinquished their dreams to a straight job.  The Paskowitz Family proved that America may be running out of frontiers but it hasn't run out of frontiersman.

EDITORIAL REVIEW:  This heartwarming and heartbreaking documentary is about legendary surfer (and some may say "a beer short of a six-pack") Doc Paskowitz, who closed a "successful" medical practice to withdraw from the lifestyle of mainstream America.  The family (including 9 children - 8 boys and a girl) spent their days living by Doc's rules on health, fitness, and sexuality, and above all surfing!  They traveled up and down the coasts of America and parts of Mexico surfing.  And that is pretty much it.  None of the kids went to school, they ate no sugar and no fat (they were all in remarkably fantastic shape), and anything they learned came from life experience and whatever books they would read (formal education was never a priority).  Other than the no sugar policy within the Paskowitz family, the kids generally liked the idea of no school and just surfing all day...but as they got older, they soon realized that they weren't quite prepared for the real world.
