Nim's Island - Abigail Breslin, Jodie Foster - DVD | moviebizz.com
featuring rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: Welcome to Nim's Island, a tropical paradise where
imagination runs wild and adventure rules! Nim Rusoe lives on a deserted
island with her scientist father, Jack, and her best friends: Selkie a sea lion;
Fred a bearded dragon lizard; and Galileo a plucky pelican. But when Jack goes
missing at sea and the island is "invaded", Nim reaches out via e-mail to the
adventurous author of her favorite books, and together, each discovers what it
takes to truly become the hero of your own life story.
EDITORIAL REVIEW: Oscar®
winner Jodie Foster has played a variety of different characters in her
extensive career. In Nim's Island she plays Alexandra Rover, famous
author of a series of adventure novels featuring an even more famous action
hero. Alexandra is borderline agoraphobic and hasn't been out of her
apartment in 16 weeks. Everything she needs she orders online; from Purell®
hand sanitizer to food, she manages to live her life within the confines of her
San Francisco home and spending her days finishing her new book.
Alexandra's publisher is after her for her manuscript - which was due months
ago, but she is stumped and in desperate need of an ending.
Abigail Breslin, the talented
young actress you may have seen in Little Miss Sunshine, is Nim - the home
schooled daughter of reclusive scientist Jack Rusoe (played by 300's Gerard
Butler). Jack and Nim live on a private island somewhere in the
South
Pacific and like their perfect little world exactly the way it is: secluded
and unknown to most of the world. The only inhabitants besides Jack and
Nim are their friends, some very intelligent and inventive animals. Everything
Nim and her dad need survive can be
found in the surrounding jungle...or on the ship that brings supplies every
three months or so. The most recent shipment of supplies included the
latest novel from Nim's favorite writer featuring her favorite literary action
hero - Alex Rover. Nim's own adventure begins the night her father heads
out to sea and gets caught in a vicious storm. At the same time, Alexandra
begins her own adventure - with the help of her fictional character.
Nim's Island is a kids film,
with a touch of subtle adult humor that only grownups would understand. It's a
good movie to watch if nothing else is on and you have nothing better to do. Time well spent,
actually!
