Thomas the Falconer - Brano Holicek, Juraj Kukura - DVD | moviebizz.com
featuring rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS:
Set in the Middle Ages, in the heart of a beautiful countryside
ruled by the powerful Lord Balador, fourteen-year-old Thomas lives with his
father, grandfather and sister. Thomas knows the forest like no one else, and
he has the remarkable ability to talk to and understand the wildlife that
surrounds him. When Thomas’ father, Balador’s herdsman, is tragically killed
one night, Thomas fears that the ruthless Lord will hire a new herdsman and
evict his family from their land.
When a plan to meet Lord
Balador to ask for a piece of land leads to an embarrassing situation, Thomas is
forced to flee to the forest – leaving his grandfather and sister behind. His
instincts must take over if he wants to survive, and bring Lord Baladora a gift
that will ensure forgiveness and the freedom of his family.
EDITORIAL REVIEW:
The adorable Slovakian Brano Holicek plays Thomas, a young boy who
has an uncanny ability to
communicate with animals. He can not only sense their pain and fear, but
Thomas can also talk to them. Thomas lives with his family on a small piece of
land in the shadow of the Balador castle Father is Lord Balador's herdsman
and charged with caring for the leader's livestock. When Thomas' father is
killed one night by a pack of wolves, Thomas fears that Balador will kick what's
left of his family off the land and they'll end up homeless beggars and thieves.
Thomas' grandfather concocts a plan to meet with and speak to Lord Balador on
the day of his daughter, Formina's, 15th birthday - and engagement to a
nobleman. When the entire town gathers at the castle to pay tribute to
Formina (who was born on the same day as Thomas, but one year earlier) the plan
is to talk to Lord Balador and beg for a small piece of land so they can live
without fear of eviction. Everything goes according to plan, but not for
long. A comedy of errors sees Lord Balador insulted and embarrassed with
mud on his face ;-) to the point where he at first forgives young Thomas, but
later sends some hired thugs after him. Thomas grabs his horse and escapes
into the forest and the chase is on. Thomas fights an unseeingly endless
battle to return home, and maybe with something that only his remarkable talents
can get. Something that Lord Balador is willing to give something very
valuable for.
Brano Holicek was just 14 when
he landed this role. A talented singer also, Brano's first acting job came
as the lead in the stage production of Oliver. He gives a flawless
performance in Thomas the Falconer...but doesn't sing. ;-( After this
movie he appeared in just three more films before disappearing from the
spotlight. Pitty.
