Nature's Warrior - Robin Milldoff, John Belindo - DVD | moviebizz.com
featuring rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS:
A 14-year-old outdoorsman who believes himself called to become a
protector of nature, leaves his family home to live in the forest. Here, he
must not only contend with cleaning up after his fellow humans and caring for
animals, but he must also protect himself from those who want to return him to
the village. Kim receives his calling via a vision in which a Native American
warrior appears to request Kim's help. The warrior also promises him that if he
can hit the moon with his bow and arrow, he will be able to talk to the animals.
Afterward, Kim moves to the forest and begins his new life. His parents,
however, don't
understand and only want him
home, so they launch a search with the police. He gets into real trouble after
he shoots arrows at Germans who have come in search of eggs. Violence ensues
when a solitary policeman, armed with a machine gun, launches his own hunt for
Kim.
EDITORIAL REVIEW:
Kind of a tough film to review, really. After learning that the movie's star and
hero, 13-year-old Robin Mildoff, died in 2007, I felt compelled to offer a
glowing review. Instead, I will offer a neutral review - one that neither
consistently bashes nor praises this Swedish film. I will give a few of
the movie's pros
and cons and ask that you write a review.
Director Stefan Jarl is best
known in Sweden for his nature and wild life documentaries. In fact,
Nature's Warrior remains Jarl's only feature film amongst a whole slew of
documentaries. Jarl certainly brings his eye for cinematography to
Nature's Warrior (a Blue-Ray pressing of this film would be a great investment).
Great scenery, with a far fetched story-line makes for an average film,
unfortunately. One bright spot is Robin Mildoff, though. Although
his novice acting skills do appear to hit you over the head a few times,
Mildoff does
show shades of brilliance and skill that you would expect from more experienced
showmen. His first, and sadly only film brought him no praise and no
riches and he died far too soon.
The circumstances surrounding
Mildoff's death are somewhat clouded. If you have any sourced
information (meaning from a reliable source that we can confirm) please send us
an email.
