Teenage Angst - Franz Dinda, Niklas Kohrt - DVD | moviebizz.com featuring
rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: On the shores of a deceptively peaceful mountain lake,
inside a picturesque castle-cum-boarding school, four bored boys from
über-wealthy families create a clique, replete with sexually charged rites and
rituals. Desiring to break free from the gilded cage in which their
parents have deposited them, they sneak off campus at night to party, skinny dip
and play their increasingly dangerous games. The stronger-willed boys lord
it over the weaker ones, until really bad things start to happen.
EDITORIAL REVIEW:
In Teenage Angst, the story takes place in a high-end boarding school
for rich kids. In a stereotypical view from a gay person's eyes about an
all-boys boarding school, everyone is apparently gay, horny, and dying to get
laid in some sort of kinky sex romp...and don't forget the über-kinky initiation
for "newcumers" to the school. And it is these cruel sexually themed
initiations that seem to guide these boys through life as they get more and more
sadistic. I found it very hard to get into this movie. The actors
are a little lost at times, and so is the story telling. Although,
Teenage Angst begins to draw you in with hints of brilliant story-telling
(there's a wee bit of Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange kind of storytelling)
on occasion, it doesn't quite grab your attention before it starts to drift
again - almost like the writer or director ran out of paper when writing the
script. And just when you think they're adolescents trying to get your
sympathy, they end up in bars doing very adult things and in several other adult
situations where any sense of reality is thrown out the window (hence getting
lost with the point of the film).
If you're looking for a good
story, this 60-minute feature is almost empty. But, if you're looking to
get lost in your imagination and just go with the flow, then you'll probably
enjoy it! I just think the idea of boarding schools being full of
sex-crazy boys with bizarre and cruel initiation rituals is a plot that has been
used far too often. Teenage Angst kind of reminds me of the days of
the teen-exploitation films like Porky's - you know when the actors are
trying to convince you of their innocence and nativity - which is a little
difficult when the actor playing a 15-year-old is actually 23-years-old and has
a "5 o'clock shadow" at 9 in the morning! Porky's might be a bad
example as that movie is a comedy and Teenage Angst is nothing to laugh at, err I
mean laugh with.
As a bonus to this DVD is the
short film Baby Shark, which is three stories of teens behaving badly.
Baby Shark is a lot more enjoyable, more realistic, and a welcome
addition to this DVD.
