Lord of the Flies (1963) - James Aubrey, Tom Chapin - DVD | moviebizz.com
featuring rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: Lord of the Flies is famed theater director
Peter Brook's daring translation of William Golding's brilliant novel. The
story of 30 English schoolboys stranded on an uncharted island at the start of
the "next" war, Lord of the Flies is a seminal film of the New American Cinema and a
fascinating anti-Hollywood experiment in location filmmaking. As the cast
relived Golding's frightening fable, Brook found the cinematic "evidence" of the
author's terrifying thesis: there is a beast in us all.
EDITORIAL REVIEW: The
original, and many say probably the best version of Lord of the Flies.
This DVD is packed with extras, including audio commentary by director Peter
Brook, excerpts from the novel, a deleted scene, home movies and outtakes of
"boys being boys", and so much more! This version has fully restored picture
and sound (outstanding picture quality). For many of the boys, Lord of the
Flies
was the only film they would ever appear in. James Aubrey, who plays
Ralph, is the only exception. His appeared in the big-budget American
film Spy Game (2001), with Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. Prior to
that James appeared in 12 more films following Lord of the Flies.
