Follow You Follow Me - Francis Gilson, Stephen Bratt - DVD |
moviebizz.com featuring rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: Roger Lambert's Follow You Follow Me explores the
developing friendship between two teenage boys in 1979 England. Joseph,
the son of a factory owner, is shy, and unsure about a lot of things in life.
Peter, who's own father works for Joseph's dad at the factory, is confident and
cocky and knows his way around a girl's heart. On on-going dispute at the
factory suddenly begins to take it's toll on these best mates, and reveals their
true feelings for each other.
EDITORIAL REVIEW:
Oh the 70's and 80's and those short-shorts that leave nothing to the
imagination! This short piece of 70's cinema from the UK stars Francis
Gilson as the strawberry-blonde (but leaning more towards a redhead), ultra
naive Joseph, and Stephen Bratt as Peter. Follow You Follow Me focuses on
the often confused Joseph (who only just learns what wanking is) and his life as
a puff (a homo, for those of you not familiar with UK slang). Joe has it
rough, not only do the suspicions of his classmates lead to ridicule and random
beatings, but his father's on-going labor dispute with the factory workers is
starting to affect his friendship with Peter. Joe's father wants to sell
his factory, possibly leaving 80 people unemployed, including Peter's father.
This puts a tremendous strain on the boys' blossoming relationship - which Joe
gets upset about, but does Peter feel the same way?
Follow You Follow Me could have
easily been a lot longer than 33 minutes, and I wish it was. For the most
part, the acting is brilliant and natural making it seem almost like a
documentary. Of course it's not perfect, but I have to give credit where
credit is due! If you liked
Blue Jeans, you'll like this
one. Jolly good kudos to director Roger Lambert for making a film
with sensitive subject matter in a conservative country - especially in 1979
(and yes, you're reading the "viewer discretion" right - it's not a typo, even
for an English language short).
