Fogi is a Bastard - Frédéric Andrau, Vincent Branchet - DVD |
moviebizz.com featuring rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: Clean cut 16-year-old Beni is a Zurich high school
student just itching for an alternative life. That opportunity comes when he
goes to a rock concert where he falls madly in love with Fogi, the dangerously
attractive lead singer of The Minks. The 26-year-old Fogi surprisingly
takes to the the cute, but coltish youth. He hires him as a roadie and the two
begin a wild sexual attraction that hardens into love and devotion for Beni but
wears off for the soon bored Fogi. Beni, willing victim for this first love, is
emotionally eaten alive by his slavish devotion, lust and eventual servitude to
the increasingly indifferent Fogi. The two stay together however but soon sink
into alienation, drug addiction and self destruction. The teen must soon decide
to venture into the dark inevitability with his love or jump off.
EDITORIAL REVIEW: This
surprisingly good, well told story is about Beni and his transformation
from an impressionable youth to a bitter, jaded youth thanks partially to a love
affair with a man 10 years his senior. The story takes place in Zurich,
Switzerland in 1973. After seeing Fogi (played by
Frédéric Andrau)
for the first time, it's love at first site for Beni and regardless of
his poor "cable wrapping" abilities, Fogi takes him on as a roadie. It
doesn't take the shy and timid Beni (brilliantly played by
Vincent Branchet)
too long before he opens up and makes his intentions known
to Fogi. However, as quickly as the relationship forms, Beni soon
realizes that he may just be another notch in Fogi's bedpost and nothing
more. But is that enough to drive him away? Maybe, maybe not, but certainly
enough to drive Beni into the arms of any man willing to pay him for sex.
This is a
cross between You Are Not Alone meets Whispering Moon, two top
selling items on this webpage. There is some definite chemistry brewing between
the two heroes (a la
You Are Not Alone)
but one person doesn't seem to be into it too much (a la
Whispering Moon). Overall, like the two aforementioned movies,
this is a well made film worth a look.
