SYNOPSIS: Summer, 1939: all of the men in this tiny village have gone to fight WWII.  Fourteen-year-old Julien, too young to enlist, remains behind to help with the family-run hotel.  With his new found responsibilities, Julien feels he's become a man and begins to flirt with the women, including his beautiful older cousin, Julia.  However Julia's only interest is in older men and when a handsome hotel guest arrives, the competition for her loves heats up.  With the end of summer, the world will change and Julien will discover the secrets of love.

EDITORIAL REVIEW: "So many women, so little time"...a literal translation from the original French tagline!  In a film strangely familiar to Young Aphrodites (where there are no men present in a particular village), Tender Cousins is another David Hamilton masterpiece.  In this film, Hamilton takes the controversial and makes it oddly erotic (again, similar to Young Aphrodites), but not to the point of distasteful.  Knowing his place in the world, Julien wastes no time in helping is raging hormones swing into action by flirting with his cousin, and pretty much every woman in town, immediately.  Think Dreaming About You and you'll have a pretty good idea of what Tender Cousins is all about.

The "blurry" soft look to the film is not a bad transfer, it is a David Hamilton trademark.  The film industry calls it a "pro-mist filter" and it gives the same look as if you were to smear Vaseline on the lens of the camera.  Many of Hamilton's films use this filter.
