El Topo - Alejandro Jodorowsky, Brontis Jodorowsky - DVD | moviebizz.com
featuring rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: It was the landmark cult film that began the whole
Midnight Movie phenomena of the counterculture crazy 1970's. El
Topo was the most talked about, most controversial quasi-Western head trip
ever made, transforming the way risk-taking audiences, seeking mainstream
Hollywood alternatives, watch edgy underground films. Classic Americana
and avant-garde European cinema sensibilities meet Zen Buddhism and the Bible as
master gunfighter and cosmic mystic El Topo must defeat his four
sharp-shooting rivals on an ever-increasingly bizarre path to allegorical
self-enlightenment and surreal resurrection.
EDITORIAL REVIEW: This
is the story of gun fighter extraordinaire El Topo (played by Director
Alejandro Jodorowsky). El Topo is on a quest to seek out and
murder four great gunfighters. To do this, he needs to circle the desert
in a spiral pattern to flush them out one by one. Before El Topo's bloody
journey is to begin he must first leave his 7-year-old son behind. Son of
El Topo (played by Brontis Jodorowsky...Alejandro's real life son...who
spends on of his screen time without clothes on for some odd reason) has already
seen more death and blood than any man many times his senior, but El Topo knows
this is a journey he must make without his boy.
John Lennon championed him, Dennis Hopper used
him and Marilyn Manson loves him. Alejandro Jodorowsky is one of cinema's
most controversial and influential filmmakers. Made in 1970, El Topo is
full of violent and sometimes sexually graphic scenes that rival the most
violent and sexually graphic movies of this millennium. El Topo is
certainly a bizarre movie with a sorted cast of characters that is sure to be
enjoyed by film buffs who prefer non-Hollywood pictures. This is a well
made feature with a new, digitally enhanced transfer from the original negative
that is presented uncut.
Lots of bonus features and your choice of listening to the original Spanish
soundtrack or the English dubbed version. Also, El Topo is subtitled in
four different languages if you would rather "read" the movie!
