Bully - Brad Renfro, Nick Stahl - DVD | moviebizz.com featuring rare
coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: Acclaimed director Larry Clark delivers his most
powerful film since KIDS. Marty is a tormented surfer who relies on his
longtime pal Bobby for rides to the beach and South Florida bars despite vicious
abuse. But when Bobby turns his unwanted attention to Marty's new girlfriend
Lisa and her best friend Ally, Lisa decides Bobby's reign of terror must end.
Assembling a crew of alienated suburban teens, she forms a deadly plan to get
Bobby out of the way once and for all, turning friends into enemies and casual
acquaintances into co-defendants in a murder that rocked America to its core.
EDITORIAL REVIEW: Based
on the true story of closet-homosexual Bobby Kent (played by Nick Stahl) and his
best friend Marty Puccio (played by bad boy Brad Renfro) and their bizarre
friendship that ended suddenly in July, 1993. Bobby and Marty have been
friends since the 3rd grade, and despite Marty's constant beatings and
ridiculing at the hands of Bobby, the two remain best friends. Their
strange friendship involves everything from going to gay strip clubs together,
to getting stoned, to bi-sexual orgies. Bobby has got his dad thinking
that's he's a little angel and that it is actually Marty who is the trouble
maker and the source of everyone's problems. Both Bobby and Marty have
some serious anger management issues (in real life, they were apparently major
steroid users - which leads to "roid-rage - but this was not talked about in
the
movie), but Bobby takes everything one step further - rape and humiliation is
not off limits. When it gets to the point when no one can stand Bobby's
tormenting any longer, Marty and Lisa begin to plan his murder. They
enlist the help of "The Hitman" (played by
Kids' Leo
Fitzpatrick), a self-proclaimed gang hitman (who's not a hitman at all, but
rather the leader of a "gang" of 11-year-old petty thieves). As the group
of would-be killers grows to include friends of friends, things get more complex
and not as simple as they all had hoped.
Unlike
Ken Park,
Bully has a plot. Perhaps because it's based on a true story.
And what would a Larry Clark movie be without sex and violence involving
teens? Bully has plenty of both. This is the full, uncut version.
