My Uncle Silas - Albert Finney, Joe Prospero - DVD | moviebizz.com
featuring rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: Five-time Oscar®
nominated actor Albert Finney (Erin Brockovich, The Bourne
Ultimatum) brings to life the loveable Uncle Silas, a charming old rascal
whose love of alcohol and women make him a bad influence on his 10-year-old
nephew Edward, who has come to the country to spend the summer with him.
Together, Silas and Edward recognize the
sophistication of Victorian-era England... and then set out to ignore it and
have fun. Sure, the old ladies huff and sneer, but that is because they don t
know what Edward knows: that the uncouth Silas is a diamond in the rough with a
heart of gold.
Episodes: The Wedding / Queenie White / The
Blue Feather / The Widder / Silas & Goliath / The Rev.
EDITORIAL REVIEW:
There's a skill set that British filmmakers have that most other filmmakers
around the world do not possess. That is the ability to make great films
known as "period pieces." Spot on costumes and dialect, My Uncle Silas is
no exception. Based in the Victorian era, My Uncle Silas stars the amazing
Albert Finny as Uncle Silas (remember the movie version of Annie - he was
Daddy Warbucks - but you probably remember him best from Erin Brockovich or
The Bourne
Ultimatum) and the big blue-eyed Joe Prospero as Edward (Joe is from one of my favorite movies,
Finding Neverland - he played Jack Davies). My Uncle Silas is the on-going
story of Uncle Silias' drunken, womanizing antics in his village during one
particular summer when Edward comes to visit. This well behaved boy,
raised by strict parents, slowly let's his guard down and enjoys his uncle's
company - to the point where they both get into mischief, making them a great
tandem of hell raisers! This family oriented comedy is a treat to watch
and highly recommended. It's too bad this series only lasted two seasons.
We present Series One, and it's two discs totaling about 144 minutes.
Episodes Include:
° The Wedding.
° Queenie White.
° The Blue Feather.
° The Widder.
° Silas & Goliath.
° The Rev.
This series was Joe
Prospero's first major acting role playing a prominent character.
Shortly after this series he did Finding Neverland before returning to
British TV, never again to find his way back on to the big screen (what a pity).
Albert Finny (who was actually born in the UK), of course, nominated for
five Oscars and countless BAFTA's throughout in his career, made many movies
prior to My Uncle Silas and no less than 10 Hollywood films after.
Most recently, playing the father, Charles Hanson, in Before the Devil
Knows You're Dead.
