SYNOPSIS: From the beloved best-selling series of books comes an extraordinary fantasy adventure revealing the unseen world that exists all around us. From the moment the Grace family moves into a secluded old house peculiar things start to happen. Unable to explain the accidents and strange disappearances the Grace children Jared Simon and Mallory start to investigate and find the unbelievable truth of the Spiderwick Estate and the amazing creatures that inhabit it.

EDITORIAL REVIEW:  What's better than a coming of age movie starring Freddie Highmore?  How about a coming of age movie with TWO Freddie Highmore?!  The talented Freddie Highmore (from August Rush, amongst many others) plays twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace.  Jared: free spirited and outgoing (and a trouble maker).  Simon: a quiet, introverted boy who "doesn't do conflict."  The Spiderwick Chronicles is a very well done adaptation of the Tony DiTerllizi and Holly Black books of the same name.  This particular story focuses on the Grace family and their move from New York City to a small town and into a spooky, possibly "haunted" mansion formerly owned by the kids' great-aunt.

Along with the twins' sister, Mallory (Sarah Bolger of Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker), the boys start to notice some strange happenings around the mansion.  Jared, being the unreserved type, chooses to investigate the mansion and the source of these weird voices and noises within the walls.  What he finds is an old attic filled with interesting treasures, a lot of honey, and a book...a guide written by Arthur Spiderwick.  As Jared soon finds out, there is a lot of interest surrounding this little book.

Shot a year after August Rush, Freddie Highmore had plenty of time to work on his American accent.  We're pleased to say that Highmore pulls it off in The Spiderwick Chronicles and it doesn't take too long for you to believe that he is the very character he plays.  Martin Short has a pretty significant supporting roll as the voice of Thimbletack.  Speaking of voice work, look (or listen) for Freddie Highmore in the upcoming animated feature Astro Boy (released October 23 this year).  He plays none other than Astro Boy!
