The Mist - Thomas Jane, Nathan Gamble - DVD | moviebizz.com featuring
rare coming of age films from around the world.
SYNOPSIS: From legendary frightmaster Stephen
King and Academy Award nominated director Frank Derabont comes one of the most
tense and terrifying films since The Shining. After a mysterious mist
envelops a small New England town, a group of locals trapped in a supermarket
must battle a siege of otherworldly creatures...and the fears that threaten to
tear them apart.
EDITORIAL REVIEW: The
Mist takes place in a small town (typical of Stephen King) in Eastern America.
David Drayton (played by Thomas Jane) is an artist who designs and paints one-sheets
(movie posters) in his home studio. A violent storm one night sends a big
old oak tree through the window of David's studio, not only destroying it but
everything in it. David awakens the next morning to find his property a
mess, his work in ruins and a deadline to meet for the movie studio.
As David and his wife, Steff (Kelly Collins Lintz), sift through
the damage on their property, including the totaled boat house, a mist - an
almost fog like haze - begins seep its way around the mountains and over the
lake not too far from where they're standing.
Not fazed with the mysterious
cloud quickly approaching, David and his young son, Billy (played by the quickly
growing and cute as a button Nathan Gamble) embarks on a short journey to the supermarket in town to
pick up some supplies, leaving Steff at home. In a matter of minutes the
mist almost swallows everything in its path, and soon David and Billy are
trapped inside the supermarket - afraid to go out because everyone who does,
seems to die a horrible death. Is the mist a thing - a living breathing
beast from another planet, or does something lurk inside?
This spooky tale would have
been better off if we first sold it Halloween - but only to get into the mood of
the film. However, if you wait until it's dark, turn out the lights and
turn the volume way up I'm certain getting "in the mood" won't be a problem.
You'd have to be a fan of Stephen King, and his brand of scaring the hell out of
you writing, with the added twist of a little humor now and then, or a fan of
Nathan Gamble, who plays young Billy Drayton ;-), to really get into
The Mist.
The Mist toys with your
emotions throughout the entire movie, which is a precursor to the unbelievable
ending. An ending that is rare for most films, especially for American-made
movies. An ending I bet you have never seen before!
