Haunting in Connecticut, The (Unrated Special Edition) (2009) | DVD
The Haunting in Connecticut - Kyle Gallner, Virginia Madsen - DVD | moviebizz.com featuring rare coming of age films from around the world.

SYNOPSIS: Based on a chilling true story, The Haunting in Connecticut charts one family's terrifying, real-life encounter with the dark forces of the supernatural. When the Campbell family moves to upstate Connecticut, they soon learn that their charming Victorian home has a disturbing history: not only was the house a transformed funeral parlor where inconceivable acts occurred, but the owner's clairvoyant son Jonah served as a demonic messenger, providing a gateway for spiritual entities to cross over. Now, unspeakable terror awaits when Jonah, the boy who communicated with the dead, returns to unleash a new kind of horror on the innocent and unsuspecting family.

EDITORIAL REVIEW Apparently based on "true events", The Haunting in Connecticut is the story of the Campbell family, and in particular the eldest son, Matt (Philly born Kyle Gallner).  The eldest of the Campbell siblings suffers from Cancer and along with his mother Sara (Virginia Madsen), makes frequent jaunts by car to and from Connecticut for a new radical treatment.  Because these long journeys seem to get tougher and tougher as Matt's treatments progress, mom and dad (dad is played by Martin Donovan) decide to rent a house in Connecticut and move from their home in New York.  This Connecticut house, so it seems, has "a bit of a history" - so says the landlord.  This "history" is revealed slowly throughout the film, but starts to become a little more evident when it's discovered that the house was once a funeral home whose undertaker was a little unstable.

This above average horror flick is best suited to those who get a kick out of the same-old-same-old horror clichés and and "jump" scare tactics.  It's nothing like the cheesy scare films the 1980's were famous for pumping out.  There's no killing off of horny teenagers, no men in hockey masks wielding an axe, and there is very little blood (but there is blood).  There is a lot of "OMG, did you just see that" and a few "Saw" moments that will make you squirm in your seat ("Saw" as in the great horror movie franchise).  If you've only seen the edited theatrical version, I highly recommend seeing this UNCUT (so to speak) version.  It's much better and probably would have faired better at the box office, too.  A whopping 10 minutes was cut out of the theatrical release, which is actually a lot when you consider exactly what they edited out.  PG-13 is what the edited version received, so not surprisingly this uncut version is not rated but probably would have gotten an 'R' rating in the US and Canada.  We also offer the Blu-ray version, which has both the theatrical and extended releases so you can compare.

The Haunting in Connecticut was apparently based on the paranormal experiences of the Snedeker family.  Not really based on a "true story" so much as it is based on "true events".  The bonus features have a two part documentary with the Snedeker family where they explain some of their spooky experiences.
